Hayter-Menzies blends this material nicely, writing with both authority and a light touch, giving an up-close-and-personal portrait not just of Burke, but also her family and associates, her times and the exciting theatre milieus of London and New York before the First World War, and Hollywood from the 1930s until her death in 1970.
