I was born and raised in Yorkshire, England and studied psychology. I later did post-doctoral research at a couple of unis before moving into industrial R&D (working on artificial intelligence and then human-computer interaction.) I ended up working in management for some major IT companies including Logica and IBM before setting up my own user experience design consultancy. Throughout it all, I was writing. I had three children's science books published with Macmillan and Hachette, along with over a hundred magazine articles as well as a few dozen academic papers. I have always dabbled in fiction but it is only in the past few years that I have taken it seriously. Since then I have published about twenty short stories and my first novel, TimeSplash.
I have read so widely, it is hard to know where my influences could possibly lie. Writers I've always admired most (JG Ballard, Ray Bradbury, Ursula le Guin, HG Wells, Aldous Huxley, Kurt Vonnegut, Jane Austen, George Orwell, and on, and on) may not be the ones. I've always thought my prose sounds like John Wyndham, and I've certainly read and re-read his work enough for the style to have sunk in.
My novel, TimeSplash has just been published in audio book format by Iambik Audiobooks, Montreal, Canada. eMergent Publishing, London, UK and Brisbane, Australia are working on a print edition of TimeSplash which should be released in late 2011.
I am represented by The Book Harvest Literary Agency, Sydney, Australia.
