Send yourself roses?
In junior high school, my girlfriend Caren and I would call each other when we knew there was a boy present to hear the person on the receiving end. Both sides of the phone call were staged, the receiver would act surprised and impressed to be receiving a call from such a famous person (Ricky Nelson? Bob Dylan? The star who was calling always changed.) Did we fool the nearby boys? Were they even paying attention? No matter! It was my relationship with Caren that mattered, and our theatre was a funny, playful way of building that friendship--
