where the writers are
New Work

I finally sat down to write last week.  Not to write the things I write for other people.  This was to write something purely discretionary.  I've been feeling like I was ready to write something  but not really sure what it was.  Imagine my surprise and delight when it turned out to be science fiction.

The non-writers I know always cringe when I say I'm surprised by something I've written.  To them it's patently obvious that I'm doing the writing so I must be directing the process.  The writers I know are not the least bit cringey when they hear I've written something that's a surprise to me.  Why should they be?  The same thing has happened to them.

My best stuff starts as a gift to myself.  It's exciting to write because the process of discovery then leads to brainstorming for the parts I need.  That's fun in and of itself.

I'm thrilled to be writing something  of my own.  It's been so busy lately with KidWrite and the freelance writing I do that I was beginning to miss that internal creativity that drives my own writing and gives me the energy I use for my other work.

Here's cheers for a great start!
