where the writers are
Would the real Benjamin & Pat Guppy please stand up!

I had my radio interview this afternoon, and it was actually a lot of fun. I was nervous to begin with, but once you get going it's pretty much like having an ordinary conversation on the telephone. Although it began with details about the book, the main focus of the interview was the real-life situation which inspired me to write The Wonderful Demise of Benjamin Arnold Guppy... the shenanigans of my own horrid nightmare neighbours and the effect they had upon my health. I'm finding that this is often the case when people hear that the book is based on actual events ('except the murder,' she says quickly, just in case anyone's thinking of dialling the boys in blue). At the signing last Saturday, so many people talked to me about their own situation with nightmare neighbours, and it appears that Benjamin Guppy isn't the only mad old sod who likes to hurl a vegetable at your head to make a point... copious amounts of tomatoes, courgettes, onions and peppers have taken flight over the years at the hands of Guppy-clones (a multitude of duplicates? Oh, perish the thought!). Anyway, the interview will air around April 4th, and I'm hoping to get a copy of it to post here on this blog, so stay tuned.
