Melting polar ice caps, decreasing fertile land, dying species, floating islands of waste and unstoppable virus strains.
What is happening? How is this happening?
The Right (read Republican) says this is all "hog wash." They trot out doubting scientists who dispute the claims of natural global warming and cooling cycles every 10,000 years or so.
Their stable of scientists, including the CATO Institute's Patrick J. Michaels, published an article in 2008 which claimed global warming to be a myth. In it he said, "It is now known that both Atlantic and Pacific temperatures can get 'stuck' for a decade or longer, in relatively warm or cool patterns. The North Atlantic is now forecast to be in a cold age for a decade, which will help put the damper on global warming."
Many Right-wing pundits insist the entire "Green" movement is nothing more than a left-wing scam to frighten us and is nothing more than a money-making enterprise.
Yet, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) clearly states there is no doubt the world is undergoing significant global climate change.
Here is a thought: Our population has more than doubled from three billion in 1950 to a popping seven billion in 2010. Over 600 million cars travel the streets all over the world today, compared to 40 million in 1999.
Wouldn't you expect that this increase of human beings might exacerbate the natural cycle of our earth's warming and cooling?
It's a gross image, but just think about seven billion people shoving greasy French fries into their faces, watch them toss plastic cups out of car windows, think of millions spewing bad breath in an elevator, and witness bloated executives soaking in hot tubs and driving gas-hog SUV's past mountains of discarded IPhone's.
Now, consider Thomas Malthus, who predicted that the needs of a growing population eventually would exceed the capacity of a finite earth to support it.
The solution, of course, is to slow population growth. The benefits from reduced reproduction rates among humans are 20 times more effective than lifestyle changes. So, obviously we can reduce carbon emissions by reducing the number of new children.
Now that the Democrats are in power, it is up to up to them to solve this problem by passing new legislation that will make a difference. It is their responsibility to future generations to preserve our planet.
It is also the responsibility of the Republican Party to make the ultimate sacrifice and make up for the environmental damage caused by their anti-earth administration.
Therefore, in the best interest of our country it is the patriotic duty of all Republicans to limit themselves to one child per family.
