Sexy, bad ass, naughty, dirty, clever, sweet, titilating, gorgeous, hideous, fiesty, and more comes to mind when you think of the pole dancing. But how about wrapping your mind around the idea that pole dancing was once considered acceptable and encouraged by the town elders. Don't believe me?! Then read on...
In today's modern age Pole Dancing is a growing sport...that's right, I said sport. Pole dancing is becoming a suburban phenomenom among women. A gymnastic and aerobic feat that many housewives (not to be mistaken with the overindulgent Real Housewives who don't take care for their own children) have taken up to get in shape and feel sexy about themselves. Now, do I dance? No. I can barely dance on my feet let alone wrap my legs around a shiny piece of metal and twirl around it like a nymph. But I do appluade the women who have the steel nerves and steel legs to do this erotic and exciting sport. I am not 100% sure how I would explain to my 10 year old daughter how a 13ft. pole got in my bedroom and what is it for...yeah, that would be awkward. Still many people stereotype pole dancers as slutty, hookers looking for money shoved in their panties, but this was not always the case.
Let us look to history and you will see that dancing around a pole is symbolic and as old as time. The May Pole dance is done by children today but in actuality it was a suggestive dance done during the spring season usually May when the flowwers and hormones were springing up. The pole dance was done to invoke the blessing of the gods to bring fertitlity to women and the wrapping of the pole with the ribbons was symbolic of unity between a man and woman. Think of the pole representing a large penis. the dance was actually considered erotic and done to very lively music to stir the blood.
So, whether you dance in a strip club or in the privacy of your bedroom or at an exercise class, do not feel ashamed for long ago it was quite acceptable and encouraged for women to dance around the pole.
One thing is certain, the idea of pole dancing will forever be exciting and sexy. May the goddess shine upon you.
