MARCH MADNESS SERIES: Editors, Authors, & Publishers, Oh My!
I have to admit when I met Caridad Pineiro, she had this little table in the corner of the room and she had a few books stacked up at the NJ writers conference. I was scared and new to the world of writing but determined to find out more about it. She had these paperback books with Latina characters. I was amazed because I had never seen them on shelves. I bought them all. We sat down and talked and went around the conference together and went home. I loved her books but sadly the line went defunct and I hadn't seen the name in a while but then one day on HQN I see her name, different but I said it had to be her. I picked the book up and loved it too. It was definitly her. I wrote her telling her of my joy to find her again and asked her a million questions, a friendship was formed. We both have an uncanny love of vampires and things that go bump in the night. 5 years later and she is a best-selling author and rightfully so. Her work is terrific.
I am proud to say she has helped me ever step along the way to getting published. I believe every aspiring writer needs a mentor. Hopefully who knows, maybe in 5 years I'll be where she is and someday I can turn around and return the favor to another up and comer. One can dare to dream.
She is a guest on my blog today for March Madness. Stop by and chat.
