Born into a rich culture of her Turkish heritage which she left behind as a child, Ms Atalay lived her life in Europe and North America where she taught and wrote in English, the language she acquired as a teen. Her constant search for her unique identity and her life's journey to finding the answers to questions which seemed to have haunted her past and affected her present relationships weaves the delicate tapestry of the memoir she published in 2009. In "Will of my Own" Ms Atalay not only introduces her reader to a fascinating life of a young girl and follows her as she grows into a woman, but she also carries her reader along with baited breath while she eventually comes to terms with her present and lets go of what she has no power over in order to continue her live's journey. Her rational acceptance through poetic discourse is what makes her book an empowering read.
Ms Atalay has taught English Literature for 25 years and is a freelance writer and member of Professional Writers Association of Canada since 2004.
Currently she is working on a different genre, a collection of fictional short stories.
Many authors and poets, playwrights such as Guy de Maupassant, Shakespeare, Frost, Geoffrey Archer, Maugham, St Vincent Millay, Anais Nin. I like to take ordinary situations and present them with tongue in cheek. I like a twist and subtle, wry humor in my writing.
A collection of short stories.
