For several years, I have been writing daily short observational pieces I call 'small stones'.
My hope is that writing them will help me to to pay more attention to the world around me.
If I need to write something every day, then I'm more likely to walk around the world with my eyes, ears, nose, mouth and fingers open. I'm on alert. I'm curious. I'm ready.
If I have to describe the exact red of a robin's breast, or the sound of ice melting, it encourages me to be precise. I engage with the world as it is. I become more familiar with it. I find it easier to love.
This year my New Year's resolution will be to ask others to join me, throughout the month of January, in writing their own small stones.
This will be our 'river of stones'.
I hope that it will help them to engage with their own worlds with all their beauty and ugliness, sorrows and joys.
More than 150 people have already signed up. Will you join us?
