Good Night and Good Luck, a film for our times co-written and directed by George Clooney

Set in 1953 during the McCarthy witchhunts, the 2005 film Goodnight and Goodluck tells the story of Edward Murrow and Fred Friendly's attempt at CBS News to expose the unconstitutional tactics of the Junior Senator from Wisconson. Projected in black and white, in a smoky, moody atmosphere, it captures well the tension and axiety in taking on the much feared McCarthy.

Clooney knew what he was doing when he selected this topic and this period, as in many ways it mirrors our own post 9/11 horrors and asks: is the press up to its job this time around?

Like The Crucible, it attacks one of America's endemic diseases. Think Patriot Act.
