The elephant in the room - 2

I'm taking a few moments for myself at the Santa Fe Science Writers workshop.  The schedule is packed with brilliant authors and thinkers - physicists, biologists, neuroscientists.  It's amazing and exciting to be a part of this.  But for a couple of hours, I'm spending some quality time with my laptop in my room, before a shindig at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame this evening.  Eeehaw!!!

Between writing ledes and brushing up on brain science, I caught up with what's going on in the world.  Cheney, ever the hollow man, is still screaming into the abyss, the swine flu is winding down, and my attitude: aw shit, who cares, I'm in Santa Fe and having a fine time.

Part of catching up on the world is a quick look at Salon.com where I found a story on a new book (I haven't read it yet) that takes on a taboo subject, one of those elephant in the room things I wrote about in an earlier blog: the truth about being a stepmother.  It's heartening that this book has been published and my hearty congratulations to the author for her honesty.  She gets the lst annual Elephant in the Room award.
