There Is Success in The Joy of Not Working — and Prosperity Too
The Joy of Not Working Brings Prosperity

There is success associated with The Joy of Not Working. And prosperity too!

I just received a check from Random House for $7,783.72 for royalties for the 3,130 copies of the book sold in the last six months of 2010.

The Joy of Not Working still sells about 5,000 copies a year and earns me over $10,000 a year. To put things in perspective, over 95 percent of books will sell fewer than 5,000 copies in their lifetime. The Joy of Not Working has sold over 250,000 copies to date.

What makes this all so special is that 20 years ago I was in the process of writing The Joy of Not Working. One Sunday, while visiting my mother, I told her, "I have a good feeling about this book and it just may make me one million dollars."

After completing it, I took the risk and self-published The Joy of Not Working in September 1991 because no pubisher would publish it. To date, the book has earned a pretax profit of $666,000 for me. Quite a way from a millon dollars but some people state that my other retirement book How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free is a sequel or extension of The Joy of Not Working. I also had to self-publish How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free because it was rejected by over 35 publishers. This book has earned a pretax profit of about $500,000. So between the two, the total earned is now over $1 million.

Sadly, I am not able to share this with my mother, who passed away over 4 years ago. No doubt this is a similar feeling to the hockey player who wins the Stanley Cup or the football player who wins the Superbowl and tells the media, "I wish my father was here to experience this but he passed away two years ago."

I am sharing my success and prosperity experienced from The Joy of Not Working with you, however, to point out the success and prosperity that you can achieve when you are prepared to take risks and commit yourself to projects that the majority are not willing to undertake.

These prosperity quotes from my new book apply:

"The universe doesn't reward you
for the positive
and valuable things you know;
it rewards you for the positive
and valuable things you act on.
Taking positive action,
even small, slow steps,
is how you send signals to the universe
that you are inviting achievement,
success, and prosperity into your life."
— from Life's Secret Handbook (Reminders for Adventurous Souls Who Want to Make a Big Difference in This World)

"There is no secret about
how to attain prosperity.
The universe supports and rewards us
for taking risks on things that matter
to the universe.
When we remember this,
the mysteries about prosperity disappear,
and prosperity stands explained.
Prosperity will then manifest
itself provided the universe
agrees that we are doing
the right things with our lives
to deserve this prosperity."

More Power To You

Ernie, I must congratulate you, but I don't think... Oh, well, why go negative? I hope many more can pull this off. ------------ Charlie
