Before Meals

Before I eat anything I remind myself that I’m eating to live. I am not living to eat. I only want to satisfy hunger. Simply because the food is delicious doesn’t give me the right to eat more than my body needs. But I should also take my time and chew my food well. I will take my time with eating but I won’t let eating take all my time. I’ll spend just the right amount of time needed to satisfy my hunger and then move on to other activities. Most importantly, I’ll select what I eat with care. I won’t let anything poisonous- no matter how delicious or cool- into my mouth. What’s the use of owning a great body like mine if I keep spoiling it with all these poisonous stuff that people call fast food or drinks? And before I put the first morsels of food into my mouth I will close my eyes for a few seconds and:

-Thank God

-Think gratefully about the hands that put efforts to prepare the food (even if they are mine).

-Enjoy the flavor of what I’m about to eat by breathing in the aroma deeply.

-Think of people in some parts of the world who have nothing to eat and imagine how nice it would be if I could share my meal with them.

-Think of how the food will nourish my body
