Beneath an obstinate sky in a land where anyone can dream,
In a bleak time in a challenging time of opportunity
The thin sharp air alight with expectation,
For America stands at this juncture thinking where to turn.
There is a time that creeps up on us as a kind of silent reality,
Where pettiness and myopic views are cast aside,
Where stark reality stares us in the face,
And truth forms a tight knot in our stomachs.
We see the storm in its fury but we are not fazed,
For God will become our fortress and shield,
And bring peace and calm to a troubled sea,
Thus and thus we march our troops only forward.
These then are the meditations of my mind today,
When the whole world whirls into an uncertain future,
It's then that men like you must stand tall and hold firmly to the rudder,
Thinking only of the destination as when you first started.
