Enjoy your day, because you can

Life is full of everyday things that we take for granted, such as the fact that we can flick a switch and have light, turn on the tap and have the joy of clean water to keep us hydrated. And to wash ourselves. All things that are there and do we really sit and think about how they got there, do we appreciate just how lucky we are?

I don’t normally watch the news, its all doom and gloom, I choose not fill my time on negative energy. However yesterday the main news was on in the background and something caught my attention.

We all remember the Haiti Earthquake in January this year. Reporting live from Haiti, the newscaster was talking about the Cholera outbreaks due to the contaminated water that flows through the streets. The buildings they call hospitals are full and people are having to be treated on the streets in the Haitian heat.

What struck me was a live stream of a child, a baby less than a year old who was ill and dying from the terrible disease. I stopped and watched and shed a tear for the people in Haiti. Billions of pounds of aid still hasn’t made its way to help these people and to clear the streets.

They spoke of the clearing of the rubble and since January until now only a small percentage has actually been done.

The pictures they broadcast showed rivers of dirty murky brown water running through the towns, or what at least is left of them. Children and families sat out on the streets cuddling each other.

The reports suggest that over 3,000, 000 people are in need of emergency aid.

2,000,000 have been left without a home and 200,000 have died as a result of the earthquake.

They cannot turn on a tap and have that clean water, they cannot turn on the television and watch and laugh with their children. Those children cannot go out and play with no fear of becoming ill

Please take a moment to look around at your surroundings, how plush is your office? how has your day been? Anyone annoyed you over something? What do you have gratitude for?

You are lucky and rich in comparison with these people.

Thank you for taking the time to read and have a beautiful day,

because you can

Very thought provoking!

Hi Em,

I really enjoyed this blog and like for the same reasons that you don't, I don't often watch the news, as I like to let positive information seep into my mind (the news is nearly always negative), but when a news reel involves children, you sometimes can't help but watch it and sometimes you need this reality check to make yourself grateful for each day you are blessed with love, warmth, comfort and the simple commodities that we take for granted in this materialistic world that we live in. I bless each day and am grateful for all the simple things in life that are often the most pleasurable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. X

The things that remind us...

These are the things that remind us of what we have and how little we know about them.

Thank you Emma.
