My book hits the shelves in one week. I'm feeling great when I'm not feeling terrified. So far the press has been incredible -- lots of attention from most of the big magazines including Elle, Nylon, O Magazine, Self, Playboy, Penthouse. A copy of the book -- DIRTY WORDS: A LITERARY ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SEX -- has already landed in my hands and it's gorgeous. At some point last week I made the decision to stop working on my new novel and let myself enjoy this ride. Because life gets a little crazy now. A three week book tour begins a week from tomorrow. I've got a bunch of interviews set up in this next week. And though I won't check in with Amazon (the book isn't even shipping yet) my husband reports in on the numbers every once in awhile. (advance sales!) I love this book -- it's a compilation of essays and stories and poems, all about sex! I set it up as a literary encyclopedia and it's a kick -- great writing and great fun. I solicited writing by many of the best writers in the country (and beyond) and was wowed by the material I received. Tomorrow I'll blog about why I think writing about sex brings out the best in us writers. For now, let me take a breath and enjoy this moment. My book hits the shelves in one week. Hot damn.
