Litquake's Tribute to Smut!

I wanted to let everyone know about a great event coming up in the Bay area. I'm really honored to be a part of this one! Here are all the details and info -- don't miss it if you live in the area:

Dirty Words: Litquake's Tribute to Smut stars Daniel Handler, Ellen Sussman, Michelle Richmond, Kim Addonizio, Helena Echlin, Stephen Elliot, emcee Kirk Read, a fashion show by SOMA purveyor of corsets and fine leather Stormy Leather, along with cabaret and burlesque from Twilight Vixen Review

Admission to fundraiser for Litquake 2008 is $25.00 and includes two free drinks; Sunday, August 3 at CELLspace, 2050 Bryant Street, San Francisco CA 94110

Literary heavyweights from James Joyce and Vladimir Nabokov have been accused of purveying filth. Therefore it is perhaps no surprise that Litquake would serve up a giddy Sunday night homage to titillation and alleged obscenity. Which is exactly what' they've done with Dirty Words: Litquake's Tribute to Smut, a fundraiser starring a who's who of Bay Area writers on Sunday, August 3 at CELLspace, located at 2050 Bryant Street.

Tickets are available in advance through Brown Paper Tickets, and go on sale starting Sunday, July 13 at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/38342 (21 and over only)

Smut peddlers for the evening include:

Daniel Handler switching out of Lemony Snicket mode in order to read from Watch Your Mouth, a dirty little comic novel about incest that salon.com said established him "as the best dark humorist since Kurt Vonnegut"

Ellen Sussman's most recent book-Dirty Words, a Literary Encyclopedia of Sex-has been featured in such esteemed publications as Playboy, Penthouse and Elle magazines

Author of No One You Know and The Year of Fog, Michelle Richmond

Bay Area poet and writer Kim Addonizio whose writing Andre Dubus III has compared to the singing of Lucinda Williams

Helena Echlin, secret snake charmer and author of Gone

Even though he was busy being beaten up by his girlfriend, Stephen Elliott also found time to edit a collection of politically inspired erotica entitled Sex for America

South of Market based purveyor of fine leather, corsets and toys for adults, Stormy Leather, will hit the catwalk with a fashion show

Twilight Vixen Review, San Francisco's Sensational Sextet of Queer Showgirls will offer up their cabaret and burlesque

Emcee for event is cherubic-on-the-outside writer/performer Kirk Read, creator of This is The Thing, an evening of stories about sex work, hallucinations and the apocalypse

When asked about the suitability of smut as a theme for a fundraiser, Litquake cofounder Jane Ganahl had this to say. "While some organizations fly by the seat of their pants, we're proud to say that we fly by the front of ours; so a tribute to smut was always just a matter of time."

In keeping with certain smutty traditions usually maintained by theatrical venues unconcerned with literary tradition, admission includes a two-drink minimum (of sorts), as the $25.00 entrance fee includes two free drinks.
