Oh, the horror! The pain, the misery, the flashbacks to school!
First class, first homework. 1500 word essay on any topic. No more than 1700 words. Due Saturday!
On the face of it, this doesn't look too challenging. I'e written longer blog posts, so I thought this would be two, maybe three days.
It's Wednesday and I've just managed to finish my first draft! Ouch! Looking back, what slowed me down?
Well, there's the job, of course. If I get up at 6:30AM I have just enough time to shave and get dressed before dashing out the door to catch the bus. I can't really write at work because my cube is next to my bosses - not that he cares if I do my hoework - but he has someone in and out every 15 minutes and it's horribly distracting, not to mention the pestiferous co-workers with heir incessant questions!
Once home, there's the Cooking Of The Evening Meal, then eating it in front of the laptop. I'm usually done about 8:00PM, and then it's time to write!
By 9:30PM I'm dead tired if work has been crazed (and at the end of the year when we're shipping tons of products, it's insane). So that's an hour and a half of fitful writing time.
It SOUNDS like a ton, but for some reason my output is lagging. I suspect it's a "getting into the rhythm" thing with me, finally being motivated enough to put my butt in the seat in front of the laptop and live inside Scrivener.
But this class is doing what I needed it to - make me spend the time to get into the writing habit. Hooray!
Edit pass time. A switch of the gears and I'll spend the next few nights polishing my piece.
Until next time, write on!
