From our "Unintentional Humor" -archives: Note To Screenwriters: you probably didn't want audiences to laugh out loud at the line, (from Arnold Schwartzenegger's new "comeback" film) "Mein name ist Sheriff Ray Owens."
If you are somehow personally committed to the character-name being either "Ray" or "Owens" (whether for your own artistic integrity, or simply because you owe money to a loanshark with that name and are trying to delay the knee-breaking)... consider a minor compromise.
Once the contracts have been signed (with, say, an actor whose accent is so well-known that late-night comics impersonate him with no need to identify him other than "Arnold") a negligible rewrite --"search & replace," for you MS Word users-- will suffice.
Pick either "Ray" or "Owens"-- but for the love of heaven, link it to an appropriate first-or-second name.
I'd suggest "Gunther," which works in both usages.
But I'm sure you get the basic concept here, nein?
