Take a Look Within...

Nebo nails it. "When I feel lonely, my first thought is that you hold the key to my loneliness. When wanting respect, my first thought is that it is waiting on the other side of some mammoth achievement...I try so hard to find what I need or want outside of myself, certain it is waiting for me somewhere just over there."

I think I like Nebo because he's like me.

Perhaps you are too. Always looking outside ourselves for what could only ever be found inside.

So, today, I stop what I'm doing right now. Before taking another step into the relentless madness that is today, I will take ten minutes, go within, and there center myself in the images of security Jesus provided.

Maybe you remember these.  They are the antidote to anxiety over FINANCES, as he said, "Lay not up treasures in the stock market where thieves..." - well you know the rest of that.

Antidote to the anxiety we feel over matters related to FITNESS. "And why," said Jesus,"do you worry about your body?"

Or FOOD, "...or what you eat?" or, FASHIONS "...what you will wear?" or, even the FUTURE, as in "...so take no thought of tomorrow.  These are our obsessive worries, are they not?  Of course.  So, of course, the spiritual master said, "Seek first the Kingdom and these matters will take care of themselves." Now, that's a thought.

And where precisely is this Kingdom?

Don't look in church.  You'll not find it there.

Jesus said, "The Kingdom is within you" (Luke 17:21).

Imagination

Hi Dr. Steve,

Thank you for bringing reflections towards higher clarity with your luminous essay.  As Jesus said; "The Kingdom is within you" ( Luke 17:21).

And, if you wouldn't mind me adding:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge” ~ Albert Einstein

I'm learning more and more of the 'greater need' to these things that you have pointed out and written so well.:-) I truly appreciate your sharing with us!

Truly,

Catherine

"Images of security Jesus provided...."

"So, today, I stop what I'm doing right now. Before taking another step into the relentless madness that is today, I will take ten minutes, go within, and there center myself in the images of security Jesus provided."

(Your words quoted above, and those I brought out in bold, made me think of Einstein's quote - and importance of imagination.)

Truly,

Catherine

Dr. Steve, the picture sure helps. I'm there, gazing, breathing slowly, filled with peace.

Through spiritual exercises, I have two exquisite places within me. I can go to either as I choose. How precious a capability. Knowing that I can restore my peace there.

God bless you and your inspiring messages
