So I woke up this morning only to read someone's FB post that stated, essentially, "What are you attempting today that, without faith in God, it is doomed to fail? If nothing, then you aren't living by faith. Further, if you aren't living by faith, then you aren't pleasing to God" (Heb. 11).
Well, I think you know what that judgmental nonsense did for the enjoyment of my morning cup of coffee.
How do any of us NOT live by faith? Heck, just going to bed at night requires faith that you'll actually wake up the next morning. So, isn't it enough that you and I retire each evening to enter into the dream world of absolute faith...trust...believing we will awaken at the dawn of a new day? Must we "add" more stuff to the "faith ledger" before we can ever hope to be pleasing to God?
I think not, my friend. The fact that you and I do not collapse from worry about whether our lungs will breathe...our heart will beat...our eyes will blink, etc. but that it all functions in complete self-abandon and absolute trust...even a kind of perfect faith is enough to please God, isn't it?
It seems infinitely more plausible to me that the goal of your life and mine is to simply become more and more conscious that we are people of faith already...that "faithing" is the way God made us...that we do not have to work up faith in order to please God, but we could not possibly exist without faith. And so, God is pleased already. His pleasure with you is not because you're willing to risk climbing yet another dutiful mountain in an effort to earn his pleasure and so prove to him that you believe in him...indeed trust him; but it is instead to become conscious of the God who is infinitely pleased with you already...who walks with you every step you take...for, as Saint Paul said, it is "in Him that we live, and move and have our being" (Acts).
Enjoy this day, my friend. Know God is pleased with you and, because of him, you are a person of faith. You cannot but succeed. You have succeeded already.
