Stray sentences, an unpublished novel, and a burgeoning amount of pretty good business writing . . .what is a good Berkeley/Harvard grad to do?

Listen, I have to hold onto those names up there. I have just bounced around since graduate school. Worked for a group out of GoldmanSachs--biffos and boffos that I wanted to be but couldn't--God bless my single, English professor mother. Started a logistics software company in Ireland with an alcoholic trucking magnate. I worked for a weird transvestite in London who was a negotiator for the ANC and Nelson Mandela. Started a consulting practice in Rome, where I currently work, that provides management and leadership development to (mostly) a slew of UN clients.

Still, that unpublished novel sits. Those wary drabs of unkempt paragraphs, doodles, in mostly blank journals. Ugh. I want to write. I’ve been so depressed in my early forties. Like I have to give up. Forget about it. Just make a living. Support the family and get over yourself.

Yeah, well  . . . .
