The 5th of 6 Children, I finally learned to stop waiting for someone to pass me the Ketchup! A painfully shy child, I learned to fake confidence by twirling a baton in the front yard, selling treats made from Mr. Snowcone to fill a Unicef box, and mastering the French Horn. My writing foray began in junior high, when I started writing about my girl scout troop's social antics and goings-on, for the local newspaper.
In addition to being a writer, I consider myself to be a visual anthropologist. I earned a BA in Social Science from the University of Texas at Dallas and feel an ardor for writing and shooting about cultures, subcultures and trends is perfect for someone interested in accepting who they are, marketing, publishing and parenthood.
Not one to do things the easy way, I decided the world needed my social commentary and photography and consequently, started a media company, rather than a blog. Despite gaining a respectable following of 200,000 registered recipients, I recently shuddered the financial disaster, after six years. Tenacity isn't always an asset.
Some people have said I'm a visionary, after starting the first web magazine in Dallas, in 2001, three years prior to traditional media. I don't know about that, but I am always thinking. You can read about other things I've thought of, on my professional profile on LinkedIn.com, or find me on Facebook. I'm a "friend" whore!
After taking a year off to lick my media mogul-ship wounds, I'm on Red to throw the baton in the air in hopes of gaining and offering inspiration to other writers.
