1. Dishwashing as meditation. I discovered this practice while I was living in an apartment with a less-than-enthusiastic dishwasher, and ended up sticking with it even when I moved into a fully functional place. The proper way to go about it is on accident. You're just going to rinse a spoon for your tea, and then you notice that the hot water and soap are all there, and the dishes aren't doing a whole lot for themselves. So you put on really loud, funky music that's seemingly incongruous with the mindless act of dishwashing and get to it.
There's just something about having a warm, soap-scented kitchen and stacks of shiny clean dishes drying on towels that makes me feel like maybe I've got it all together after all.
