where the writers are
the podcast from South by Southwest

So, I tried uploading this properly to the Audio page, but for some reason, Red Room's audio page is giving me no love. In any case, here's what this is about:

On 20 March 2011, longtime Rolling Stone stalwart and renowned writer/editor Dave Marsh moderated a panel at South by Southwest in Austin, to celebrate the release of and on piano...Nicky Hopkins, Julian Dawson's monumental biography of superstar session keyboard man Nicky Hopkins. The panel was packed, and became one of the highlights of this year's SxSW. Included on the panel were author Julian Dawson, Richard Perna, legendary keyboard players Ian McLagan and Chuck Leavell, and me. All of us knew, worked with, hung with or lived with Nicky during his life, and all of us feel strongly that his level of genius doesn't deserve obscurity.

So here's a link to the podcast:

Give it a listen - including the stellar live tribute cover Julian and Chuck played at the end, of the Stones classic "No Expectations" - and celebrate Nicky's legacy, and Julian's book. And here's the info on that; ignore the "preorder" and just click away:

So. good.

author of the Haunted Ballad series, the Kinkaid Chronicles, five standalone novels, numerous short fiction and essays, and a lot of snippy opinions.

It really is one hell of a book. And Annaliese Moyer took some brilliant photos. The one they used - post-panel with everyoner holding up someone else's name placard - was killer.

Enjoying it.

Just a quick follow-up to say how much I'm enjoying the Nicky Hopkins book. I'm not quite halfway through it yet, but already love this book.

Glad he had favorable things to say about his work with The Who (my favorite band).
