Okay, friends: It's official and I can blab the giddy news. Grove/Atlantic has made an offer on "Fobbit" and we (my agent Nat Sobel and I) have accepted. If there's a Cloud 9, then I'm on Cloud 10. It's been a long road (6 years!) and I have many people to thank for getting me this far: first and foremost Jean Frederick Abrams for her faith in me and her unwavering support with her constant mantra "Write what you know;" my three children who have always said it's "cool" to have a writer for a Dad; my parents who wisely let me sit in solitude in my room reading books from age 5 to 17; Dan Wickett who took my first dispatches from Iraq, published them on the Emerging Writers Network, and made me see the possibilities; Nat Sobel who was the first one to say the words "Catch-22" and "Fobbit" in the same breath; and early readers Thom Mills & Kerri Arsenault who gave good advice. I have many more to thank, but I'm too blasted excited right now to think straight.
