Dave Zeltserman’s short crime fiction has been published in many venues, including Alfred Hitchcock's and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazines. His first novel, Fast Lane, received widespread praise, with Ken Bruen calling it ‘the most entertaining debut since Jim Thompson’. Dave’s second crime novel, Bad Thoughts, was published in 2007 and praised as a ‘compellingly clever wheels-within-wheels thriller’ (Booklist). Dave's next three crime novels Small Crimes (Oct. 2008), Pariah (Jan. 2009) and Killer (Jan. 2010) will be published by Serpent's Tail as loosely-themed "man just out of prison" noir series. Dave lives in the Boston area with his wife, Judy; is a die-hard Patriots and Red Sox fan; and when he’s not writing crime fiction he spends his time studying martial arts (holds a black belt in Kung Fu).
I always read a lot as a kid, everything from the classics to pulp and science fiction. When I was 15 I picked up a dog-eared copy of Mickey Spillane's "I, the Jury" that hooked me on crime fiction. From Spillane I quickly exhausted the works of Hammett, Stout, Chandler, Ross Macdonald, and many other crime fiction writers, including Dan Marlowe, Jim Thompson and Charles Willeford.
Small Crimes was published in 2008 and was selected by NPR as one of the top 5 crime and mystery novels of 2008 and by the Washington Post as one of the best novels of 2008, and also received a starred review in Publisher's Weekly where it was compared favorably to the best of James Ellroy.
Pariah is scheduled to be published October 2009, with Killer following May 2010. Caretaker of Lorne Field, Outsourced and Essence are also scheduled to be published in 2010, with Impact Pictures and Constantin Film currently developing Outsourced as a feature film.
