I stare at the blank document, knowing that I want to fill it with something. The thoughts are there. My eyes are weary from staring at the screen. Extraneous thoughts pop into my head but still that opening sentence is elusive. It's not quite writer's block but something else, something for which I have no name. That's when I know that I need to walk away from the computer, to gain some perspective.
I look at my cat, napping peacefully and think that she may hold the secret. Not enough sleep. Not enough real rest. Cats are good at that. If napping were an Olympic event, Aimee would win the gold. She purposefully marches off each day to find a comfy place for a power nap and then she's ready to attack life again.
I've never been good at it but maybe, just maybe, I just need to learn to nap.
