Today is January 29, 2008 and I'm embarking on something new. Oh,this is definitely a new experience for me. I've never blogged before. Blog. Such a new word. Like Ginormous. And like ginormous, blogging can seem somewhat daunting to the newcomer. I guess this is a place to share a bit of myself, my thoughts, my work, my life.
My name should have a CABC following it. The alpahbet soup means that I'm a Certified Animal Behavior Consultant. I've earned those credentials and they were awarded by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (www.iaabc.org). It's part of who I am but not all, just as writing is part of who I am but not everything. Are you shocked? Surprised? Well, it took me awhile and some major life experiences to make that particular discovery.
I spent many years as the sole caregiver for my mother. I don't know where the time went but I know what it's like to fight for someone else's life when I probably couldn't fight for myself. Everyone needs someone in their corner. It was a full-time job, as is writing. Other things had to fall by the wayside for several years but that was my choice and I would do it again in a New York minute. Would that I had the chance.....
I sit here in my office thinking of a colleague I've never met, another Massachusetts native, one of our own Red Room members, Patry Francis (http://www.patryfrancis.com) whose first book, The Liar's Diary, is being released soon. Just when she should be gearing up for the launch, she's dealing with cancer and needs a bit of help, help that her colleagues can provide whether we've met her or not. So here it is, my pitch to help another author get her book off the ground when she hasn't the energy for the high jump that's required. I hope that we, as a community, would do that for each other, no matter what the problem that necessitates a helping hand if that hand is willing. Make that extra jump for someone else. The Trade Paperback version of The Liar's Diary (http://www.amazon.com/Liars-Diary-Patry-Francis/dp/0525949909/sr=1-1/qid...)is being released today. It's a good time to think of helping Patry and others who need a little extra help from us. ~ Darlene
