I have a glass-fronted bookcase, retrieved from my aunt's pantry where it held baking ingredients and many a delicious pie for years. And I'd like to have the room for a carousel bookcase, twirling and picking a choice at random. With a deep shelf for a pie or two.

Google: Browse an infinite digital bookcase
Google is experimenting with transforming the Google Books digital library into a bookworm-friendly virtual bookcase. Asking what the best reader-book interface would look like, the designers expanded the image of wooden shelves into an infinite 3D helix.Googledescribedin the company's official blog how WebGL Bookcase works:The online bookshelves can be spun up and down and side-to-side with a computer mouse, and the display "holds" 3D-effect images of over 10,000 titles fromGoogle Books, organized into 28 subjects, including Free Books.A visiting bookworm simply chooses a subject from the top of the page, and the "camera" pans to it.Pulling a book off its shelf, means clicking again, bringing the title to the screen's front and center in high resolution. Then clicking on the cover opens up more information -- a synopsis, plus author and title details.
