Barack Obama’s two books – “Dreams from My Father” and “The Audacity of Hope” – made the president a rich man, and last year, he got $500,000 richer with an advance to shrink “Dreams from My Father” down for middle schoolers and young adult readers.
Financial disclosure forms released Monday for the president and Vice President Joe Biden also put a price tag on First Dog Bo, and at $1,600, a mangy mutt he ain’t. Bo the Portuguese Water Dog is disclosed as a gift from the late Sen. Ted Kennedy and his wife, Victoria.
Obama reported assets of between $4.25 million and well north of $23 million. The value of his book royalties alone is between $2 million and $10 million.
The vice president’s assets are considerably more humble, but Biden, who rarely lets a public engagement go by without a nod to his Irish heritage, did report the gift of a first edition copy of “Anna Livia Plurabelle” by the Irish literary giant James Joyce, signed by the author and valued at $3,500.
