Prague, (CTK) - Former Czech president Vaclav Havel has appeared in an advertisement for the AAA Auto used cars mart in exchange for sponsoring his and his wife Dagmar's foundation Vision 97, the lidovky.cz server reported Thursday.
The firm enabled the foundation to use an Audi free of charge for a year.
Havel has acted in the advertisement by accident as he had to substitute for his wife who was abroad.
In the ad, Havel is promoting "4000 cars in the offer" of the used cars mart.
Havel has not been paid for the advertisement, which is common in the case of a gift for the foundation, his secretary Sabina Tancevova told the server.
The foundation has used the car since January, lidovky.cz writes.
"Dagmar Havlova, as the foundation's board chairwoman, mostly takes over such gifts, but this time she was not in the Czech Republic, and so the former president, as the foundation's co-founder, substituted for her," Tancevova added.
Havel, 74, playwright and dissident, was Czechoslovak president after the collapse of the communist regime from December 1989 to 1992 and Czech president in 1993-2003. Since he left the post, Havel has primarily focused on the promotion of human rights in the world.
He returned to theatre with his latest drama The Leaving premiered in May 2008. Last year he shot its film adaptation, his debut as a film director. The film was premiered in the spring.
