COVERING SEX AND DEATH

As I tracked myself down while filling in the Google forms for the Google Book Search Settlement, I came across this cover for one of my books. It is the Italian translation of THE BONNER DECEPTION. I've hunted for it before, so I don't know why it came up this time. Still, it is my one naughty cover, and it pleases me.

THE BONNER DECEPTION centers around a NATO Military Complex, and the hardback had an artist's rendition of such on the cover.  The Italian publisher decided on a different tactic. Now, there is sex and violence as befits a military intrigue novel, but they managed to combine both. There is indeed such such a scene in the novel, where a small plane gets shot down while approaching the NATO Complex. And a dead and naked female is found at the controls. Interesting plot points both.

One of my more pleasant experiences as an author was travelling through Italy and finding this book on display. News stands and kiosks have an array of paperback books, and this was prominent for passing pedestrians to see. I know it would have attracted me.

One other brush with sex and the cover came with a paperback printing of A LOST TALE. The proposed cover was to depict a naked female druid, arms reaching to the heavens. This is also an image I appreciate, but it was not true to the novel itself. There was such a scene in the book, but the female druid was fully clothed. I made my objections and managed to get the following cover.
