“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.”
Right before I was about to go on the air on Thursday, June 25, my email box filled with messages letting me know that a colleague had died, Farrah Fawcett. During the radio broadcast I offered a short tribute to a woman whose dazzling smile, fresh face, and mane of blonde locks captured the hearts of the world during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Her death from cancer touched me deeply as I had been a photo double for Farrah in films and had enjoyed a long career working in TV, print, commercials, and personal appearances as her look alike. During those years, I didn’t like being compared to that beautiful blonde bombshell, I wanted to create my own persona. Every time I worked in a film, long lines of fans would wait for autographs. When I’d sign Cynthia Brian, they’d get angry because they thought I was Farrah and they were disappointed, as was I. An old Chinese proverb advises “you can’t push the river, you have to let it flow.” I took the advisement to heart and quit worrying about creating a unique Cynthia Brian look. “Que sera, sera” became my motto. Being “Farrah” was magical, frightening, and taught me lessons that have served me well since I came into my own.
My days of looking like Farrah are long gone. I’m grateful to her for sharing her stardom with me, and hope her life was as blessed and fulfilled as mine is. She was surrounded by friends who loved her, and witnessing how much Ryan doted on her, I know she died knowing how much she was cherished. As her friends have said, “She was an angel on earth and now she is an angel in heaven.” God bless you, Farrah. Thank you and may your legacy live on.
Every moment is precious. Make sure to share the love and compassion today while you still have time.
