Some Q & A With Let My Colors Out Author Courtney Filigenzi:
What inspired you to write this book for children?
"Over the years, I watched as neighbors, relatives and friends received cancer diagnoses and I noticed that all their children seemed overwhelmed, and extremely silent about what their families were going through. This saddened me and I wanted to help. I wanted to find something simple to relate very complex feelings to, so the children could express themselves in terms that they would understand. Colors came to mind. This book was written so the kids I care about, and those all over the world that are experiencing the same devastating disease, can talk about how they feel."
I was eager to read your book when I saw the title Let My Colors Out. What does it mean to let your colors out?
"Letting your colors out" means letting your emotions out, whether they are good or bad. It is not good to let negative feelings fester inside. Everyone needs to be able to talk and express themselves, especially during difficult times. Talking through your pain and fears with those you love is healing and extremely bonding. This is an important part of any relationship, especially that of a parent and child."
