Courtney gives an overview of the book:

Help children cope with range of emotions following a parent’s cancer diagnosis Unfortunately, many young children are dealing with their parents’ diagnoses and battles with life-threatening illnesses. In Let My Colors Out, a young child is dealing with his mom’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. He experiences a range of emotions—scared, sad, jealous, feeling fine, denial, anger—that together form a rainbow of hope through this critical time, allowing him to know he is not alone and that his feelings are acceptable.   The story ends with a surprise pop-up and a message of hope.

Earlier this year, I found out my mommy is sick.  She has something called cancer, and it can be really, really bad.

Sometimes I feel scared.  These are my purple times.  I wonder if my mommy will be okay and what will happen to my family and me.  I worry about all the doctor's appointments she has and if she's scared.

 It's okay to feel purple
