As a fan of the BBC sci-fi shows Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, a visit to Cardiff, Wales, is almost compulsory if you're in the UK. Luckily, I received an invitation to read poetry with the brilliant Ivy Alvarez at the reading series she hosts with Mab Jones at the Old Orleans pub in the city centre. I was joined by my friend and fellow poet Karen Head and her lovely new husband, Colin.
We made it to Cardiff Bay – the fictional home of the alien-fighting Torchwood Institute – and to the Doctor Who Museum. I enjoyed my brief trip to Cardiff and look forward to visiting again some day.
If you're headed to the UK, my new article about Cardiff (or Caerdydd in Welsh) is now posted at Gadling.com.
Writing this series of articles (big props again to the folks at Red Room!) has been a great way to relive my summer abroad.
