I've made a pact with my Muse...and my Readers:
I'll never sell them short.
I'll never work to a formula or put money ahead of my art or compromise my vision to satisfy someone else's questionable aesthetics.
I will never refer to my work as "product" or speak of "units sold", nor will I allow anyone else to do so in my presence.
My writing will never be commodified.
To paraphrase a comment I made in an earlier posting: I'd rather starve in a garret than be a whore in a mansion.
No agent, editor, movie producer, religious figure or sheriff is going to tell me what I write or how I write it.
Profound and earnest efforts will be made not to insult the Reader's intelligence or impose a phony-baloney style. Everything in service to the story.
The author takes no credit for any intrinsic value or artfulness present in the Work, instead giving praise to his Creator for providing inspiration and the courage to continue...and offering thanks to discerning Readers for seeking him out.
