Baker is acknowledged as perhaps the world’s foremost authority on travel to Cuba, about which he has written six books, including Mi Moto Fidel: Motorcycling Through Castro's Cuba, a two-time national book award winner. His feature articles have appeared in most major U.S. daily newspapers, the inflight magazines of more than two dozen airlines, as well as in publications as diverse as BBC's World, Caribbean Travel & Life, Elle, National Geographic Traveler, The Robb Report, and the South China Morning Post. A nine-time Lowell Thomas Award winner, Baker is also an accomplished photographer with many front-cover credits to his name. His photography has also appeared in books by National Geographic and Time-Life. A gifted public speaker, he has lectured aboard various cruise ships and has been privileged to address such entities as the National Press Club, the National Geographic Society (Live... from National Geographic series), and the World Affairs Council. In addition, he has been profiled in USA Today and has appeared on dozens of syndicated national radio and TV shows, including CNN, Fox TV, ABC, NBC, and NPR.
