Dream Chaser: A Novel That Reaches Beyond the Veil of Time

I love the planet, so I travel. I love to read, so I wrote a novel. I love movies, so I made my own book trailer.

I’m lucky enough to have a friend to help me. Scott Hale is an artist, graphic designer and computer whiz. We made the book video in iMovie on a Mac.

Before starting, I studied lots of book videos and trailers for my favorite movies. The trailer for “Atonement” inspired me because it used a letter to impart the main storyline. I have such a letter in “Dream Chaser.” That realized, the script fell quickly into place. The most time consuming part of the process was searching websites for video clips and photos. Some offer free images, others can be expensive.

After selecting the pictures, we strung them together. We then edited the video over and over until we had twelve scenes that represented the story, and all within in 58 seconds. We added background music and percussion sounds. Lastly, I recorded the narration.

The appeal of the trailer rests in the eye of the beholder. My reward comes from having tackled a new art form.
