Just had a close encounter with a hummingbird while walking my dogs, passed the little guy just sitting in the hot sun on a black macadam street. He didn’t move as my dogs got to within a foot of him. The dogs never barked as they usually do at crows. I took the dogs home and went back to the spot. The bird had moved but not far away. He allowed me to scoop him up in a little box with a lid. He flutter a little but was calm. I walked to a cool grassy area and removed the lid. He flew up and away, didn’t appear harmed. My guess, he just wanted a little company. A man walked up to me and thanked me for assisting the bird. Maybe that was the lesson from the bird. A reminder to be kind, recognize kindness, and acknowledge it. As publisher of The Hummingbird Review, I declare this to be so.
