One week after planting a mailbox in front of our new house in North Carolina, the telegram arrived. "Project approved. Tickets purchased. Will meet you at the airport in Rome. Ciao. Sergio." Ecstatic, we packed what little we could and were on the road in two days. We could only guess what adventures lay ahead. The night our plane took off, the moon rose directly in our path. We did not sleep.
In Rome, we passed through customs but found no one waiting to take us the final leg of our trip to the city of Perugia. We rented a car and headed north.
