Cathie Beck here! (www.cathiebeck.com)
I am the author of the award-winning memoir, Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship (Hyperion Books), which (happily) enjoys a number of accolades, including: Books for a Better Life Award Nominee; the only memoir named a Great Group Read by National Women’s Book Association; named Target Stores Emerging Author; Midwest Booksellers Association Featured Author – and perhaps the best endorsement of all -- Iris Dart, author of Beaches describes Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship as “an achingly poignant memoir that reminds every woman to call her best friend right away.”
I’m also a Denver-based journalist and creative writer, and my short stories have appeared in Riverrun Literary Magazine, Glimmer Train Literary Collective, Red Dirt Publications, and Zoetrope Stories, to name a few.
My (smart-aleck wine) column, “The Wine Wench,” appears in ColoradoBiz Magazine (www.cobizmag.com) and is live on KUVO radio (www.kuvo.org) in Denver and surrounding regions. I’ve written for the Boulder Daily Camera, the Los Angeles Times, The Denver Post, The Rocky Mountain News, The Denver Business Journal, Poets & Writers Magazine, and Writers Digest. I am the recipient of the Louisiana Press Women’s and Denver Press Woman’s Writing Awards, the Scripps-Howard Award for Excellence in Journalism, and the University of Colorado’s Dean’s Award for Writing.
But forget all that. I was a single mom at age 22, raised two kids alone and can twirl a mean baton.
Redroom feels like an old-fashioned (yet modern) literary soiree to me. I’m delighted to see seasoned, well-established writers alongside the new and revolutionary.
