Human nature. I am an insatiable student and observer of human nature. As far as other authors go, I grew up on Steinbeck, Kesey, Keyes, Vonnegut...and since I now write YA lit (among other things), I think those influences in my young adulthood were crucial. They taught me to flow to the left. Or maybe I was born with that, but they gave me added permission.
