I am so passionate about reading and learning everything that has to do with the soul of humanity. It is on my mind all the time. There are very few times that I am not aware of the spirit that moves us all. - That I constantly pray for God’s wisdom in everything; especially when writing. I am so fixed on writing the right words, which will benefit the reader in an understanding, as clear and concise as the sacred word of Himself would write. Words that serve a purpose of certainty, and without a shadow of doubt; the powerful message of love, peace, and prosperity.
It all began at the age of twenty-six years old, when I suffered the loss of my first husband, mother, and my home; all in one month’s time. I was homeless and alone with a five-year-old daughter depending on me to keep it together.
I became obsessed with reading. Starting with the Bible; this led to every inspirational and self-help book that was written. I continued reading and learning how to live through these crises, that would have otherwise crippled me. And it worked. I survived! And I continue reading, sometimes the same books over and over. And as much knowledge and comprehension of the meaning that I retain are etched in my heart; it is still not enough for me until I 'lived' them.
I started to see that all my reading had to be put into action. I had to live this faith! And through every adversity that came around, I felt lifted; only when I put my faith in action.
I truly feel that the things I write about are the most valuable knowledge that is beneficial for everyone as much as education in any field of study. Actually, I think the more! And that we all, at some time or another will come to find the emotional support and trust through God, if we feel the world be against us.
At a time, I felt the whole world was against me. It is why I have the deepest longing to tell the whole (Holy) story…

Obsessions and fixations
It seems bizarre to claim that my main obsession and fixation is writing. But let me me more specific. My obsession has to do with the world I am writing about at the moment. For example, for many years now, I have been obsessed with the world and the people from Northeast Brazil. This is not totally far fetched. My mother and I were both born in Rio de Janeiro. I came to this country very young. But my mother lived in the Northeast where my American father worked for a couple of years. My mother, being the sophisticated carioca she was, hated it. My father loved the Northeast, so when I say I grew up with Baiao music playing on the record player, I am not kidding. But through my mother's distress about the poverty and ignorance of Brazil's northeast, and my tough ascetic father and his role in surveying previously untrodden territory (by non-Indians, anyway) came the most amazing stories which were handed down to me.
I have been taking the germ of my mother's stories and creating my own. I'm working on my second novel that takes place in Brazil's northeast. My first published novel, Samba Dreamers, deals with the feeling of displacement common to Brazilian immigrants here. What is amazing about the Northeast is that the stories seem on the surface so unreal, yet, the fact that they are real, fills me with wonder.
