"In California," Motamedi writes, "we've lost sight of the basics - the security, shelter and safety that kids need to grow and to learn. A public school that doesn't fulfill this promise is conducting business as usual; a private school that tries to get it right gets tagged as 'elite.'
"As far as I'm concerned, all of our kids ought to have this kind of privilege. Too bad, for all of us, that they don't."
