This reminds me a little of a classic exchange between Margaret Laurence (by then a much-published and awarded fiction writer) and a brain surgeon at some party:
Brain surgeon: "You know, I've always thought I could write a novel myself."
Laurence: "And I've always wanted to try brain surgery."
Ouch!
