Alternet has posted an article about research that seems to show that when white audiences see black actors in the trailer, they become less interested in the movie. Authors and publishers know the same thing seems to happen when black folks are depicted on the covers of books. I blog about that subject and others on my blog White Readers Meet Black Authors.
Over here I've noticed that Rosa Villarreal is letting folks know about the Women's Literary Festival. So I thought I'd also tell anyone who might be interested that there are many black literary events coming this summer. Including:
Art Sanctuary's Celebration of Black Writing in Philadelphia next month.
The National Black Book Festival in Houston next month.
National Book Club Conference in Atlanta in July.
And just as with the Women's Literary Festival, one does not have to be black to attend.I'll be at all the above and would love to see you!
