May is Women's Motorcycling Month, and because I'm a writer, and a traveler, and a motorcyclist, and a feminist, and I want women to be recognized as a powerhouse in powersports, I've been posting a profile a day of a woman in the motorcycling industry who is inspirational, influential, and important. The list is biased. I'm in media, and so I know a lot of women in media who write about motorcycling, so there are a lot of journalists and editors listed. I also believe that media is one of the most powerful ways to infuence the public and an industry, and these women have a lot of reach there. There are also a couple of young racers--motocross and hardtrack racers--who are real sportswomen and transcend the "biker chick" stereotype. They are clearly influencing a lot of young women. There's a chopper builder, a couple of merchandisers, and motorcycle industry politicos, too. Whether you ride a motorcycle or not, I think you'll be enlightened and entertained. When I started, I wasn't sure I could think of 31 women, but by now I could write about 62. Well, there's always 2012.
